During this module students will explore various contemporary issues affecting the hospitality industry. Students will have the opportunity to gain a fuller appreciation of how and why hospitality is a dynamic and changing industry that is greatly influenced by external factors. This module thus provides opportunities for students to examine various topical issues and future trends, for example demographic trends and demand, contemporary market and competitive trends, emerging technologies, use of social media, AirBnB, serviced apartments and eating out; as well as current food trends within the restaurant sector, trends in diets and their impact on wellbeing, and changes in the operating patterns of various hospitality organisations.

 Additionally, this module will provide students with an opportunity to research contemporary issues and recent developments affecting the hospitality industry. It will also allow students to analyse and evaluate breaking news and pioneering developments in the hospitality industry.

This module provides students with a systematic understanding and knowledge of the contemporary issues facing the Human Resource Management (HRM) function in organisations. It considers the current state of employee relations, and the challenges of people management including recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and administrative challenges. The module will give students a firm grounding to help them effectively address these topics in the contemporary business environment by reconciling emerging theory with recognised best practice.

This module provides students with the opportunity to undertake a research investigation into a specific business or hospitality management challenge, issue or problem culminating in a formal management report with detailed findings and recommendations. The module will not only offer potential links with employers, but will also demonstrate the application of research principles to real-world situations. The module will provide students with an integrative bridge between the theoretical areas of their study and the determination of applied solutions and/or evidence-based conclusions.

This module equips students to become future leaders and managers within the hospitality industry by providing an advanced perspective on the strategic planning process. It will focus on strategy formulation, planning, implementation and an evaluation of business impact in terms of strategic alignment. The module will present and evaluate a variety of analytical models, techniques and concepts, considering their utility and application to a range of contexts within the hospitality industry.

The module examines the implications of the operational elements of Rooms Division as well as Food and Beverage Management within the hospitality industry. Students will have an opportunity to critically evaluate the role and effectiveness of key operational aspects such as the front office, the management of housekeeping services, public area, lost and found, and linen operations.
